Botulinum Toxin type A, (tradename BOTOX® or DYSPORT®) has been used since 1988 to treat muscular problems including squints, eyelid spasm and facial spasms. Ageing is associated with the development of wrinkles and furrows on the face. These lines may develop as a result of weakened dermal collagen from sun exposure and gravity, as well as facial muscle action on the skin.
Botulinum Toxin for Frown and Smile Lines
Botulinum Toxin reversibly freezes or relaxes the muscle. Therefore it may be used to treat lines caused primarily by action of the muscles on the skin. The ideal areas to treat are the deep crease between the eyebrows, crows' feet wrinkles and forehead lines.
Use of Fillers in Cosmetic Dermatology
Contrary to popular belief, the injection of material under the skin to plump out wrinkles is not a new idea. From the early 1900s to the 1960s liquid paraffin wax injections were used in China as a treatment for wrinkles. Please do not try this at home!
Nowadays we use either Collagen or Hyaluronic acid products.
The Difference You’re Looking For
This is a common distressing problem affecting men and women that can now be effectively treated using Botulinum Toxin injections, offering dryness for between six and eight months. Often excessive sweating can be caused by anxiety which causes a vicious cycle by the embarrassment it causes.
